“The mental health community got a bit stronger, brighter when Senua joined”

Deeper Into The Rabbit Hole
So the video game awards have come and gone and there wasn’t really a lot to make noise about. Except for the return of everyone’s mentally ill Celtic warrior.
Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice was a an awesome game that came out of nowhere. With a unique concept (a mentally ill character) woven perfectly into the story and gameplay. I won’t talk about it to much here as it is almost certainly gonna get a proper entry in my Extra Lives adventures.
I trust Ninja Theory to deliver another great game but I hope they are careful. They spent a lot of time and effort making sure that the representation of mental illness was fair and as true to life as it could be. But it’s important now not to fall into some horrible tropes around mental illness.
Most importantly (in my opinion) is that Senua’s illness cannot become a superpower. The “super-powered crazy person” trope is incredibly insulting and would really undermine the solid groundwork they’ve built. Hopefully they avoid some pit-falls but I’m sure they’ll do brilliantly.
I am seriously looking forward to the next chapter of Senua’s adventures in 2020 and if the first game is anything to go by, it’s gonna be a helheim of a trip.
Thanks for reading and I’ll see you all next time. Until then, remember to take care of yourselves. Peace.
A great collection of thoughts from the community that fell in love with Senua.
