I Find Your Lack Of Faith Disturbing

“The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force”

Darth Vader, Star Wars Episode IV – A New Hope

The Force Is Real

Darth Vader straight up chokes a bitch. I doubt I’ll need to explain this scene to anyone out there as I’m pretty sure 90% of the cinema/movie enjoying people out there know this scene or have at least seen it. It’s one of the most iconic/memorable scenes in Star Wars in general, maybe even in cinema as a whole and it easily deserves a spot in my Awesomeverse.

One of the things I never thought about as a kid was what the scene really shows. When I was a kid and saw Star Wars for the first time I accepted everything that was shown/told to me, including all the mumbo-jumbo from Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Here came this space wizard who tells you all this cool magical stuff about how there is a cosmic “Force” that binds everything in the galaxy together. Looking back on it all that build up was interesting but it was just mumbo-jumbo right? It’s like when a hippy tells you they can feel the Earth’s vibrations through ley lines, you’re not really meant to just take it on word alone right? Some evidence would be nice.

The very next scene however is this one.

We cut to some Imperial admiralty discussing how super awesome the Death Star is and how it’s gonna help them rule the galaxy because it can blow up entire planets with one blast. Darth Vader then reminds them that the Force is actually super duper awesome.

Then one of them chides Vader telling him his “Force” is a load of nonsense. Vader then straight up chokes the guy with one of the coolest lines in cinema (in my opinion), “I find your lack of faith disturbing”.

So in one scene Vader (and George Lucas I guess) show to us that those doubtful questions aimed at Obi-Wan were not needed. Not only is the Force real but it is capable of some scary stuff.

Thanks for reading and until next time, remember to take care of yourselves. Peace!
